Xordle — Two Secret Words, One Board, No Shared Letters
Welcome to Xordle, one of the most intellectually rewarding and unique Wordle variants on the web. Unlike traditional multi-grid games where each word gets its own board, Xordle places two distinct hidden five-letter words on a single, shared grid. The twist? The clues you receive represent a combination of both words, and the two target words have absolutely no letters in common. You have nine guesses to discover both words!
How to Play Xordle
To play, type any valid 5-letter word and press Enter. The game will evaluate your guess against both secret words. Green means a letter is in its correct position in either Word A or Word B. Yellow means a letter is present in either word but in a different position. Gray means the letter does not appear in either secret word. You win by identifying both hidden words within nine attempts.
Xordle vs Dordle — Same Goal, Totally Different Rules
While both games require you to find two five-letter words, their mechanics are completely different:
- Dordle: Two separate boards side-by-side. Guesses are evaluated independently on each board.
- Xordle: One single shared board. The clues are merged, meaning a yellow tile could belong to either word, and the two target words have zero overlapping letters.
What Makes Xordle Unique?
No Overlapping Letters Between the Two Words
This is your greatest asset. Because the two target words share zero letters, if you find that T is in Word A, you instantly know it cannot be in Word B. This allows you to split the alphabet cleanly as you gather clues.

Xordle Strategy — How to Decode Two Hidden Words
Use the Free Starting Clue Wisely
Analyze the pre-entered starting clue. Any yellow or green letter in that clue is guaranteed to belong to one of the two target words.
Separate the Two Word Targets Early
Once you identify 3 or 4 letters, start grouping them into separate words. For example, if you find E, S, T, and O, and you know S and T often cluster, check if they fit in Word 1, while O and E go to Word 2.
Eliminate Letters Systematically
Because target words do not share letters, any letter marked green or yellow for Word 1 is immediately eliminated for Word 2, preventing redundant guesses.
